Bloretrekkers Blog - The Genesis

Yoo-hoo! Finally a space on the World Wide Web to pen pleasant memories and embarrassing moments on treks…..

The first serious/ formal post, I thought should ideally be on how the group “Bangalore Trekkers” formed. Am a recent entrant into this group and in fact haven’t met all the trekking enthusiasts. Would love to share the little Gyaan that I gathered from my conversations with Siva and Ravi on this though …

Well, Anand kickstarted this group; he wanted to explore places around Bangalore, make ‘Timbuctoo’ sounding destinations more exciting , fun and weekend getaways for nature and trek enthusiasts. The others pitched in to –take a break from the monotony of work, recharge their batteries, getaway from the hustle and bustle of Hosur road traffic, explore something beyond malls and multiplexes, be in the wild, see nature in its full splendor and well, give the adrenalin some work !

The group has been in existence for about a year now and has explored a fairly good number of places on the Karnataka road map – Savan Durga, Chunchi Falls, Doddalahalli,Pearl valley, Madhugiri , Pandavpura to list a few.

My share of Gyaan Byte ends here. Hope the others would add on to this post – Say, on who christened the group, when and how did one arrive at this name?

The Genesis.

It so happened somewhere around the Autumn of 2004. Anand, was seated in the fourth floor on erstwhile Gecis, a bay beyond Simply Siva. Explorative, Curious and 'straight' (read - blunt , many would agree with me on this trait of his) character he was, decided to survey the landscape in and around Bangalore. He had let Siva known of his "genunine" intentions. Siva in-turn did ask me about a day before the actual day of the trek. I was half minded, to trek or not to trek.

Life, indeed was not so "interesting". Life was dull, monotonous and mundane. Siva was on a low. His sweetheart had flown elsewhere. He was recuperating. Mine wasnt in the best shape either. We simply, wanted to break away from groove that we had ourselves let in. We decided that we would turn a new leaf in our lives. And yes, that was how our first trek happened.

November 16, 2004 - atleast thats what my camera says. Early morning was too early for me. Poor me. And Anand was kind enough .... We were just in time to catch the train to Mysore. Yes, we were heading to a place called Panadavapura. And , THAT is what I know of how it all started.

Ever since we started, as Bhavi mentioned in the earlier post, we have done a good number of treks. People have come and gone. But some have stuck.

We did have some photos right from our first trek. I really wasnt comfortable with the way the photos were being shared. There defnitely must be a better way. With some back ground in html stuff, I thought posting on the net would be a good idea. We posted some pictures in Yahoo, in our own ids. But they were personal ids. It was not a common platform.

The site needed a name. I was thinking about names. Bangalore Trekkers was toooo long for me. So, Bangalore Trekkers became bloretrekkers. There were a lot of web hosting companies which gave away free space on the net. I was looking for something that would give us a lot of space. Plenty is always no harm. Prfousehost.net gave about 1 GB of space. I grabbed it with all my greediness. We got our first pictures somewhere about the autumn of 2005 (for those who are weak in seasons its the sep, nov period in the northern hemisphere). And yes, in about 4-5 months the site has grown. About a few days, we crossed a hundred hits to the site, officially.

Bhavi, on one of our recent treks was bugging, err ... voicing out her wish that we need to have a blog. Anand - our founder - leader , too seconded that wish of hers. What more can some one have, rather than fulfil Bhavi's wish. Next came the Bloretrekkers Blog. Thats how the blog (this one) took birth.

Thats in short about the genesis of Bloretrekkers.

With regards to interesting people ... yes ... the more we think of the term interesting, the more it becomes a riddle. All of the following statements are true.

1. Treks have become more interesting , if not everyone, atleast Anand and Siva would vouch for it, given the kind of experiences we have had.

2. Interesting people , come for treks. Nobody would disagree on this as well.

3. People become interesting in treks. If you dont agree, then trek once, and you will find it for yourself.

Anybody ... any thoughts ...

Warm Regards,
Ravi
